Grocery Gambits

About this event

Wise Guy’s Chess Club is proud to partner with Rivertown Market to bring you Grocery Gambits , a free, bi-weekly community chess event designed to connect minds of all ages and skill levels over the timeless game of chess.

Held every other Saturday from 12 PM to 3 PM at Rivertown Market (1475 E Jefferson Ave, Detroit, MI 48207) , Grocery Gambits offers an inclusive, family-friendly environment where you can learn, play, and grow with fellow chess lovers.

Whether you're a total beginner or a seasoned player, there’s something for everyone:

♟️ Free chess lessons from experienced coaches

♟️ Open play with provided chess boards

♟️ Monthly tournaments with exciting prizes , kicking off October through December

Thanks to our ongoing partnership with Rivertown Market, we’re also bringing back our $50 monthly food voucher program , supporting up to 5 families each month —because building strong minds starts with supporting strong communities.

We invite you to come out, make a few moves, meet new friends, and support both Wise Guy’s Chess Club and Rivertown Market . Whether you're learning your first gambit or sharpening your endgame, Grocery Gambits is your move!
