About this event

This is a poetry discussion group. We meet once a month to discuss a volume of poems. We call it "Memory and Light," to honor the tradition of poetry that we are participating in, as something that informs our everyday lives through insight, wisdom, observation, curiosity, ire, indignation, and anything else that we can associate with the making of a poem. A poem is a conversation in time. During a Memory and Light session we will read poems out loud and discuss them, focusing on everything from sound to meaning to rhythm to context to the meaning of a book to the meaning of a word to the meaning of a poem. Along the way, we will engage with the metaphorical resources of language, and come away with an experience that combines thought and word into something both old and new.
