About this event

For thousands of years, sound has been used to heal, connect, grow, and express. Today, neuroscience is uncovering how sound and frequency may help calm the nervous system, promote focus, and invite deep rest. During this monthly gathering, we will intentionally draw upon the ancient and emerging benefits of sound, deepening our practice through layers of guided invitations, journaling, and/or expressive arts.

Offered every third Wednesday of the month, each session follows the natural flow of the seasons, from fall into winter, from light to dark, from exertion to rest:

• 9/16 - Reaping

• 10/21 - Rooting

• 11/18 - Releasing

• 12/16 - Returning

Led by licensed counselor and expressive arts therapist, Liz Ahlbrand, each sound bath begins by establishing safety and comfort according to the group's needs, and addressing any questions or concerns. After a brief guided meditation, participants are invited to engage in any meaningful practices, such as intention-setting or stretching, as the sound bath continues, with time at the end for focused journaling and/or art-making.

Crystal singing bowls, brass bowls, chimes, voice, drumming, and strings are all possible instruments used during the session. No prior experience required with sound, music, journaling, meditation, or the arts!

• What Is Provided: Pens, markers, oil pastels, colored pencils, scrap paper, floor cushions, yoga mats, and cushioned chairs will be available, along with tea and water. Feel free to bring a journal, pens/pencils, a blanket or yoga mat, and anything else that makes you feel comfortable.

• Where Is Practice: Unless otherwise noted, sound baths will occur in the studio (refurbished garage) at the Create U. house, located behind the main building.

Accessibility note: the entrance to the studio/garage includes a short pass over a stone and grass pathway, and a short step up into the space. Bathrooms and beverages are located in the main house on the first floor, which includes four steps up a railed stairway to get to the door.
