About this event

Jiong Yan, M.D., J.M.

Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon, Emory Eye Center

Chief of Ophthalmology, Emory University Hospital Midtown

Chief Quality Office, Department of Ophthalmology

Associate Professor, Emory University School of Medicine

Dr. Yan completed her ophthalmology residency at Emory Eye Center, fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at UCLA/Jules Stein Eye Institute and spent time at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London for an honorary fellowship in inherited retinal diseases. She has spent more than twenty years in clinical trials to explore new treatment for patients with inherited retinal diseases, after she returned to Emory Eye Center as a faculty member in 2004. Her research and clinical interests include the Optobionics Artificial Silicone Retina microchip and the ARGUS II epiretinal prosthesis for retinitis pigmentosa, the CNTF implant for retinitis pigmentosa, atrophic age-related macular degeneration, and macular telangiectasis type 2.

In addition, Dr. Yan takes great pleasure in training the next generation of ophthalmologists and retinal surgeons, having served as the fellowship director for the vitreo-retinal surgery at Emory Eye Center for 10 years. She also serves as the Chief Quality Officer for the department and the Chief of Ophthalmology Services at Emory University Hospital Midtown.

Dr. Yan enjoys traveling in her spare time with her husband, Baxter, often with visual arts and classical music in mind. She serves on the board of the Emory Carlos Museum and on the advisory board of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
