About this event
Frisch Marionettes’ enchanting production of The Wizard of Oz uses expertly crafted marionettes, expressive choreography, and an original score inspired by America’s rich musical traditions to bring Dorothy’s unforgettable journey to life. Along the way, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion each discover their own distinctive musical voice, with styles ranging from spirituals and blues to ragtime, Dixieland jazz, and funk, creating a fresh interpretation of L. Frank Baum’s classic tale. The Wizard of Oz is an American fairytale and is an inspiring story about unlocking the potential that exists within each of us.
After the show, the puppeteers host a kid-friendly talkback, allowing everyone a chance to learn more about the art of puppetry. Best for families with children 4 and older.
Be sure to check out the puppet displays next to the Lecture Hall entrance to see American Puppeteer Burr Tillstrom’s marionettes for a television production of “The Marvelous Land of Oz.” On view through December 2026.
This program is free with museum admission. Capacity is limited – seating begins 30 minutes prior to the performance start.
