- ➤ Starting Monday, tolls for cars at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel will rise from $8.25 to $9, while the Ambassador Bridge already increased from $9 to $10 last Thursday—officials say the change meets rising costs and inflation. The Detroit News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Michigan Social Security recipients will get January checks on Jan. 14 for birthdays 1st-10th, on Jan. 21 for 11th-20th, and on Jan. 28 for 21st-31st, with early benefits paid today (for recipients who began before May 1997). A 2.8% COLA took effect on Dec. 31, boosting benefits by $56 on average. Hometown Life
