BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spirit Airlines will resume nonstop seasonal service from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport to Boston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Charlotte, and Raleigh this April. Flights to Boston and Philadelphia begin on April 15 while the other cities start on April 16, expanding service to 17 destinations.  Hometown Life

CULTURE NEWS

  • Gov. Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Gilchrist signed a proclamation yesterday naming January as Muslim American Heritage Month to honor Michigan’s diverse Muslim communities. The state, with over 241,000 Muslims and 50-plus mosques, will offer art and history exhibitions in local museums.  Hometown Life

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in metro Detroit woke up on Thursday to over 6+ inches of snow covering neighborhoods after a winter storm hit overnight. Road crews are still clearing streets and more snow is forecast for Friday, with cleanup work set to continue for several days.  WXYZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Before the Detroit Auto Show, the Michigan Attorney General warned attendees to check QR codes & parking services for scams and phishing texts, advising verification and receipt confirmation to protect personal data.  WXYZ
  • Gov. Gretchen Whitmer toured GM's section at the Detroit Auto Show on Thursday, Jan. 15, where she tested vehicles including the GMC Sierra Denali EV and Cadillac Escalade IQ and opened the media day with a speech highlighting manufacturing challenges.  MLive
  • The Michigan Natural Resources Commission approved new rules that adjust the coyote season by creating an open period from Oct. 15 to March 1 and a management period from March 2 to Oct. 14, effective March 1, to address overabundance and interspecies conflict on public and private lands.  Hometown Life

HEALTH NEWS

  • Corewell Health launched a donor registration tool through MyChart (online portal) that lets patients sign up for organ, eye and tissue donation; over 2,300 patients registered since October, and the update adds their donor status to the National Donate Life Registry so it travels with them across Corewell’s Michigan facilities.  The Detroit News
