- ➤ Southfield families enjoyed a lively Winter Fest on Feb. 1 at the Sports Arena (26000 Evergreen Road) where they skated, climbed, rode a horse-drawn carriage and visited booths from the library and parks department. - ➤ Southfield will host the free Rhythm of Our Roots music festival on Feb. 7 at Southfield Pavilion from 4-8 p.m. featuring local musicians, food vendors, and exhibits by Black History 101 Mobile Museum to celebrate Black History Month. Southfield Sun
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan Department of Transportation announced ramp closures on I-75 (via I-696) beginning early March with detours in place until early summer as part of ramp base, drainage, and bridge improvements. WXYZ
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Metro Detroit native and Full House actor Dave Coulier is in remission from tongue cancer after recent treatment, according to doctors at Karmanos Cancer Institute. He completed earlier treatment for Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma and experts note that tongue cancer is often highly treatable. FOX 2 Detroit
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ Michigan Girl Scouts have launched a new rocky road sandwich cookie called Exploremores (with chocolate, marshmallow and toasted almond crème) that is available through local councils online and in person along with favorites like Thin Mints and Tagalongs. Hometown Life

- ➤ John Utendale made history in 1955 by signing with the Detroit Red Wings as the first Black player, even though he never played for the team—he later built a career in coaching and education that paved the way for future hockey pioneers. Fox 2 Detroit
