- ➤ Local Muslims in Metro Detroit will begin Ramadan on Feb. 18 after starting their fast on Feb. 17 — nightly prayers, communal meals and charity events will mark the observance throughout the month. - ➤ Southfield Pavilion at 26000 Evergreen Road hosted the first Rhythm of Our Roots festival on Feb. 7 with local Detroit-rooted acts, food vendors, and a Black History 101 Mobile Museum (organized by Southfield Parks and Recreation and jazz flutist Zonjic) to celebrate Black History Month.
