  • Focus: HOPE is seeking volunteers as its numbers dropped after the holiday season; the nonprofit urges local community members to support its ongoing programs (volunteer turnout was higher during the holidays).  FOX 2 Detroit

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local Muslims in Metro Detroit will begin Ramadan on Feb. 18 after starting their fast on Feb. 17 — nightly prayers, communal meals and charity events will mark the observance throughout the month. Community groups plan events that offer spiritual renewal and support for local families.  The Detroit News
  • Southfield Pavilion at 26000 Evergreen Road hosted the first Rhythm of Our Roots festival on Feb. 7 with local Detroit-rooted acts, food vendors, and a Black History 101 Mobile Museum (organized by Southfield Parks and Recreation and jazz flutist Zonjic) to celebrate Black History Month.   • With this winter's rare heavy snow and freezing temperatures, a Paramount Roofing employee explained that ice dams can damage homes nearby. The report posted yesterday (Feb. 11) advises residents to stay alert to prevent costly buildup.  FOX 2 Detroit

  • Retired Lions offensive tackle Dan Skipper will join the coaching staff as he ends his playing career after the 2025 season. Sources say he will work on the sidelines following the hiring of former Cardinals coordinator Drew Petzing, though the team has not yet released an official statement.  CBS News Detroit
