CULTURE NEWS

  • Global superstar Hilary Duff will perform at Pine Knob Music Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 15 as part of her Lucky Me Tour (with special guests La Roux and Jade LeMac) and tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m.  WXYZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Huron Valley schools voted to let Oakland County voters decide on a 1.5-mill, 6-year school enhancement millage that would raise $125.8 million in its first year and give the district $5.5 million annually if passed, with other districts set to vote on their resolutions by March for an August ballot.  Hometown Life
  • High school seniors in Michigan can apply for the 2026 Rosa Parks Scholarship until March 1 to earn a $2,500 award plus paid summer internships with The Detroit News. The award must be used for tuition, books, and fees.  The Detroit News
  • Southfield Public Schools updated the community on Jan. 28 at Adler Elementary School by showing completed bond improvements (new flooring, roofing, drainage, and a playground) and detailing future projects for Birney, Thompson, Levey, and University K-12 schools. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A major road project will begin next month along I-94 from east of I-275 to west of Michigan Avenue to repair concrete, improve drainage, adjust ramps and build noise walls for residents. Bill Urban from MDOT (Michigan Department of Transportation) said the work will reduce traffic noise.  Click on Detroit
  • Over $350 million in work is coming to 13 miles of I-94 in Metro Detroit, with peak construction set to begin once the weather warms and ramp closures expected to affect about 100,000 drivers daily until the project is complete in 2029 (near Detroit Metro Airport).  CBS News Detroit
  • Gov. Whitmer's proposed tobacco tax increase is stirring debate as local business owners and consumers in Southfield weigh its impact. Business leaders worry about sales declines and shifts toward vape products, while some support the plan's potential to generate much-needed funds for health care.  WXYZ
