  • Stevenson Elementary in Southfield celebrates March is Reading Month with a program that includes read-aloud sessions, a Battle of the Books, and visits from local authors. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The total lunar eclipse will peak at 6:38 a.m. today and turn the moon red — local weather may limit viewing due to clouds.  Hometown Life
  • Michigan’s coyote management season began on Monday, March 2, to curb overpopulation that endangers backyard chickens and pets, and will run through mid-October. Hunters must use legal methods + properly dispose of carcasses with a base hunting license available online, according to state officials.  CBS News Detroit

  • Michiganians will set their clocks ahead one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, Mar. 8 as daylight saving time begins, giving extra evening light while winter weather may still linger.  The Detroit News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • IHOP celebrates National Pancake Day today by offering a free short stack of three buttermilk pancakes at 26 Michigan restaurants from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Customers can donate $1 to Feeding America so that each donation helps provide at least 10 meals to local food banks.  Hometown Life

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lions traded running back David Montgomery to the Texans for offensive lineman Juice Scruggs + two draft picks on March 2. Montgomery’s role had diminished with the team after Jahmyr Gibbs emerged, confirming long-held trade speculation.  CBS News Detroit
  • Ilitch Sports launched Detroit SportsNet as the broadcast home for the Tigers’ 2026 season and the Red Wings’ 2026-27 games, available by cable and streaming in Michigan. Future details on channel lineups for the Red Wings will be announced soon.  CBS News Detroit
