  • At 93, Barbara Talley, known as the mother of civil rights in Southfield, still helps local leaders and works for more fairness in government. CRIME NEWS

  • Linda Preka Thom filed a formal complaint with the Attorney Grievance Commission yesterday (on the sixth anniversary of her son Denis Preka's death) alleging prosecutorial misconduct after charges were dropped against the man accused of drugging and recording his fatal overdose on Snapchat.  Hometown Life

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy agreed to strengthen Oakland County’s discharge permit after lawmakers led by state Rep. Tom Kuhn pressed for changes to reduce the impact of untreated sewer water on local waterways— the updated permit requires improved water treatment, expanded infrastructure and further studies on chlorine and flood control measures.  Southfield Sun
  • A new flex lane on I-96 in Oakland County opened Wednesday between Kent Lake Road and the I-275/I-696/M-5 interchange—drivers can use it when a green arrow is lit and posted speeds guide the flow. Motorists used the lane during morning and evening congestion on weekdays, with eastbound access from 6 to 9 a.m. and westbound from 3:30 to 6 p.m.  FOX 2 Detroit

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southfield siblings Braylen Watson, 12, and Rylee Watson, 11, were named Children’s Miracle Network 2025 national champions by Corewell Health Children’s—earning them a role to advocate for children with speech and language delays nationwide.   • Oakland County Parks announced five golf courses will open for the season on April 1.
