Good morning, Southfield.

On April 8, Southfield Fire Department responded at 1:09 a.m. to a commercial structure fire at Plum Hollow Market on 21999 W.

Nine Mile Road—firefighters retreated from an interior attack as mutual aid from nearby departments helped contain the blaze with no injuries and limited smoke and water damage to attached occupancies.

Southfield police made an arrest in connection to a deadly stabbing that occurred on April 12th at 9:30 p.m. at a gas station on 22000 8 Mile Road—charging decisions will be made after the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office reviews the case.

Families in Southfield may face price increases of up to 145% on Chinese-imported kids’ clothing if tariffs remain in effect, with prices rising in early May as current inventory sells out.

Local resale events such as Just Between Friends have doubled participation, offering 50 to 90% off retail prices and scheduling next sales from April 24th to 27th and from May 2nd to 4th—providing a money-saving alternative.

Southfield City Council approved a rezoning request at 16400 JL Hudson Drive to repurpose the vacant Plaza Hotel into mixed-use apartments and support services for young adults transitioning from foster care.

The plan includes commercial space and a community center and has a tentative groundbreaking set for summer 2026.
