Good morning, Southfield.

Joshua, a 20-year-old DoorDash driver, was carjacked by armed teens from Oakland County while making a delivery in Southfield when his stolen 2023 Dodge Charger was wrecked in a chase—police said his detailed 911 call helped arrest two suspects and recover a ghost gun.

Smoke plumes seen on Sunday in Metro Detroit came from a marsh fire on Squirrel Island that is one of about 15 fires in the Walpole Island area that began on Thursday—officials said the remote fire has caused no injuries or property damage.

Today at 7 a.m., westbound I-696 between Southfield and Lahser roads will operate with two lanes for median work over three months, and drivers must follow a detour — via I-75, Davison Highway and the Lodge Freeway.

On May 9 at 9 p.m., the stretch from I-75 to the Lodge will fully close for about 10 days for demolition of the Church Street Plaza Bridge while eastbound I-696 remains closed until fall reopening.

The Detroit Pistons lost Game 1 to the New York Knicks 123—112 after a poor fourth quarter in which eight turnovers led to a 21—0 run.

The Pistons, in their first playoff game since 2019, saw a strong lead vanish and now face a postseason losing streak of 15 games.
