CRIME NEWS

  • A 66-year-old man from Detroit was charged with manslaughter after fatally stabbing his friend in the chest during a fight outside the BP at Eight Mile and Lahser on April 12—he turned himself in on April 16.  Fox 2 Detroit
  • Redford Township police say a Cadillac driver fled the scene after colliding with a motorcyclist just after 7:40 p.m. Sunday on Beech Daly near the Plymouth intersection—officers later found the motorcycle burning and the victim fatally injured while they recovered the Cadillac in Detroit and identified a possible driver.  FOX 2 Detroit
  • A Detroit man, Gregory Anthony Clark, 66, was charged with manslaughter after he allegedly fatally stabbed his friend in the chest at a gas station at Eight Mile and Lahser on April 12, with the victim’s family confirming his identity from video evidence and he turned himself in on April 16 while his bond was set at $50,000 with a probable cause conference scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 1*.  The Detroit News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Michigan increased by seven cents from last week to an average of $3.15 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel today, the American Automobile Association reported—metro Detroit prices held at $3.11 while a full 15-gallon fill cost about $47—indicating rates lower than last July.  WXYZ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Westbound I-696 from Southfield to Lahser roads has only two lanes open from April 21 until late July for road work. Between May 9 and May 19, a section between I-75 and the Lodge Freeway will be fully closed for demolition of the Church Street plaza bridge and drivers will follow a detour using southbound I-75, westbound Davison, and northbound Lodge Freeway.  FOX 2 Detroit
  • More work began Monday on I-696 as westbound lanes are reduced to two from Southfield to Lahser roads for median work through late July; crews will fully close westbound I-696 from I-75 to M-10 for bridge demolition from 9 p.m. May 9 until 5 a.m. May 19. The closure is part of the Restore the Reuther project that will reconstruct both directions of I-696 over the next two years.  WXYZ
