CULTURE NEWS

  • On April 12, Southfield held its first-ever 'Silence the Violence' Battle of the Bands at Center Line Preparatory Academy, where F.I.R.E (Forever Illustrating Real Entertainment) and local schools joined forces to help youth choose music over violence. The event drew about 1,200 fans and saw Southfield A&T earn third place and the Best Percussion award.  Southfield Sun

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Michigan residents must update their Real ID in person at a local Secretary of State office before May 7 so they can travel on domestic flights and access federal facilities. They must bring a current driver's license and approved documents for legal presence — such as a valid passport or birth certificate — and book their appointment online.  Hometown Life

  • The Leapfrog Group’s spring ratings show that 24 Michigan hospitals earned an A for patient safety while three Detroit Medical Center hospitals received failing marks. The report, based on up to 22 safety measures, highlights the need for Detroit hospitals to improve patient care.  MLive
