  • Floyd Galloway, 38, accused of first‐degree murder in the 2016 killing of a Farmington Hills woman whose body was never found, is set to face a jury on February 2 next year after his trial was rescheduled amid prolonged legal delays—he is also serving time in prison for an unrelated assault.  The Detroit News
  • A suspect opened fire after a museum event in Washington, D.C. that left two Israeli embassy staff dead and Metro Detroit Jewish community leaders said the attack reminds them to unite against hate — authorities have identified the suspect as Elias Rodriguez.  The Detroit News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study by the Environmental Working Group found that only about 25% of sunscreens sold are safe and effective — Dr. Leonard Kerwin advises Southfield residents to choose broad-spectrum, mineral sunscreens with SPF 30 or higher and reapply every three to four hours — reminding everyone to protect their skin properly as summer approaches.  WXYZ
  • Michigan health officials warned that Lyme disease cases increased to 1,200 in 2024 from 452 in 2020 while anaplasmosis cases rose from 17 to 82; they urge residents to use repellents and check for ticks during Memorial Day weekend. The state department recommends prompt tick removal—especially after time in wooded areas—to reduce the risk of severe illness.  The Detroit News
