  • Families visited the new Erb Discovery Trails at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak yesterday — a seven-acre, $49 million project offering a stingray cove, barnyard area, and canopy trail, with future exhibits including burrowing owls and bush dogs.   • Metro Detroit counties will host Memorial Day parades and ceremonies on Sunday and Monday. Dearborn’s 100th parade starts at 10 a.m. from Michigan Avenue with staging at Schaefer, and Ferndale’s celebration begins at 10 a.m. near Memorial Mall + several events honor fallen soldiers regionwide.  The Detroit News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan has restricted six invasive landscape plants used in local landscaping to protect native ecosystems. Two water plants will be banned beginning June 19 while four shrubs and trees will be prohibited starting Jan. 1, 2028 after a phase-out period for the nursery industry, with no penalty for accidental possession.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State officials encourage Michigan homeowners to fill out an online application for the Safe Room Rebate Program, which if funded will cover up to 75% of tornado safe room costs for eligible applicants. Fifty homeowners will be selected with 100 alternates, and applicants must complete construction to receive reimbursement.  Hometown Life

  • Following their playoff exit, the Pistons have laid out an offseason schedule with free agency and draft preparations set from June, including draft pick choices on June 23–24 and training camp beginning in late September — the timetable aims to build on their 60-win season.  MLive
