  • The family of Hope Sovran in Southfield is working to replace their van used to transport her (she has spina bifida and has undergone many surgeries since birth). They hope to secure a safe, reliable vehicle soon.  CBS News Detroit

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that Michigan gas prices fell 20 cents to $4.63 per gallon for regular unleaded on May 26, which means drivers now pay about $69 for a full 15-gallon tank — higher crude oil prices and lower supply may push prices up soon.  The Detroit News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Royal Swim School has introduced Zero to Swim to help adults learn water safety at their own pace at local pools with lifeguards present; the course offers video lessons ranging from three minutes to nine minutes & live support via FaceTime or Zoom, costing $99 with a discount for social media comments.  Click on Detroit
  • Gov. Whitmer signed a bipartisan bill on Tuesday that lets school districts count up to five forgiveness days for lessons missed during severe storms. The law affects districts in over 40 counties after weather disrupted instruction in March, April, and May.  The Detroit News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Michigan state health officials said yesterday that the early MMR vaccine recommendation for infants (6-11 months) is dropped after an April outbreak in southeast Michigan led to 2,371 vaccinations, and no further cases have been reported.  The Detroit News

  • Detroit Red Wings prospect Michael Brandsegg-Nygard scored 13 seconds into overtime Tuesday in the World Championship game in Fribourg (Switzerland), helping Norway edge Denmark 4-3 and move into the quarterfinals scheduled for Thursday. This was his third goal in two games following a strong run in the AHL.  MLive
