- ➤ Priority Waste appointed new CEO Aaron Johnson on Monday, June 1 after its acquisition by TPG. He succeeded Todd Stamper and will focus on strengthening operations — improving service for roughly 1.1 million metro Detroit households. The Detroit News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Since June 1, Consumers Energy set on-peak rates at 24.5 cents per kilowatt-hour from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and DTE now charges 24 cents from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Experts advise running major appliances off-peak (to help lessen rising bills). CBS News Detroit
- ➤ Gas prices statewide have dropped 27 cents to an average of $4.38 for regular unleaded fuel, according to AAA; rates in metro Detroit fell 25 cents to $4.39 a gallon as drivers face volatile pricing ahead of the busy summer travel season (Flint offers the lowest prices). WXYZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers on I-696 and Woodward Ave face ramp closures for the Restore the Reuther project starting Monday after 9 a.m.; the westbound I-696 ramp to Woodward will close until mid-August and the Woodward ramp to I-696 will shut on June 4 after 9 a.m. (both are scheduled to reopen mid-August). - ➤ The westbound I-696 exit to Woodward Avenue closed Monday + the ramp from the freeway is set to close Thursday as part of the final phase of the I-696 rebuild project in Oakland County. FOX 2 Detroit
