  • AAA projects that over 2.6 million Michigan residents will travel during the Independence Day holiday from June 28 to July 6 — a nearly 3% increase from last year. Approximately 2.4 million will drive, 96,000 are expected to fly, and more than 160,000 will use buses, trains or cruises.  Fox 2 Detroit

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for most of Southeast Michigan until 8 p.m. Tuesday — an extreme heat warning is in effect for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties from 8 a.m. today to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Near-record temperatures and heat index values of up to 105 have led Metro Detroit officials to open cooling centers for residents.  CBS News Detroit

HEALTH NEWS

  • Corewell Health East nurses gathered at the Southfield Center on Saturday to demand better wages, healthcare benefits, and safer working conditions before collective bargaining talks begin in three days. Speakers including union leaders and local officials said that withholding bonuses, cutting wage increases + understaffing have contributed to unsafe patient care.  The Detroit News
