ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 26-year-old from Detroit drowned after jumping from a boat into water that was 55 feet deep at Cass Lake near Keego Harbor on Sunday around 4 p.m.—a friend tried to rescue him but the effort did not save his life.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Michigan reached $3.29 per gallon (a 20-cent jump since last week) and leave drivers paying about $49 for a full 15-gallon tank. Experts warn that prices may rise further if crude oil costs increase.  The Detroit News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Road Commission of Oakland County canceled its contract for a new building—planned to put all workers in one place—after already spending millions and facing disagreements among commissioners. Officials said the project was supported by savings and a federal grant and that they will hire an outside lawyer to prepare for possible legal action.  WXYZ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Extreme heat is raising risks of heat stroke, cramps and exhaustion as temperatures near the upper 90s, and Gov. Whitmer advised residents to drink water and avoid outdoor work in counties (Macomb, Wayne, Oakland, Genesee, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Branch, and Hillsdale) until 8 p.m. today (especially those who are young or elderly).  Hometown Life
  • On Monday, southeast Michigan faced a brutal heat wave and doctors warned residents that high temperatures could worsen risks at the Ford Fireworks show—officials added that police were ready to manage crowd safety.
