  • C&S Wholesale Grocers announced on June 23 its plan to acquire Michigan-based SpartanNash for $1.77 billion — a deal that pays a 52.5% premium over its prior closing price and aims to boost purchasing power for independent grocers. The merger is expected to close in late 2025 after shareholder and regulatory approvals.  Hometown Life

CRIME NEWS

  • A 54-year-old West Bloomfield man was arraigned in Wayne County Circuit Court after running a retail theft ring that used stolen data from 8,000 residents to buy energy drinks at local Sam's Club stores — he faces charges including a 20-year felony for conducting a criminal enterprise and charges of concealing stolen property.  FOX 2 Detroit

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Southfield and Oak Park are hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony today at 11 a.m. in the Greenfield Plaza parking lot near the intersection of 9 Mile Road and Greenfield Road to celebrate major infrastructure and beautification projects. The projects rebuild a key roadway to remove potholes and add a pedestrian crossing plus include a phased lighting installation funded partly by crowdfunding.  Click on Detroit
