- ➤ Sixty-eight local swimmers will launch a 411 mile relay swim from the Edmund Fitzgerald wreck in Lake Superior to Belle Isle in Detroit on Saturday, July 26 to honor the 29 crew members who lost their lives in 1975—organizer Jim Dreyer said the relay, completed in 17 stages with four swimmers each, will also raise funds for the Whitefish Point Lighthouse. The event is set to make history by delivering a piece of iron ore from the original dock to the mayor of Detroit as a living memorial. WXYZ
