  • Hollywood Markets announced that its Troy store will close because of rising competition while the Madison Heights, Royal Oak, and Bloomfield Hills locations remain open—Troy employees will be offered jobs at these sites and the final day is expected at the end of the month.  FOX 2 Detroit

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan sky gazers can watch four meteor showers in October—with the Draconids peaking today but possibly dimmed by the Harvest Moon, the Orionids peaking Oct.22-23, and the Southern and Northern Taurids peaking in early November—and local dark sky parks offer the best viewing spots.  Hometown Life
  • Trees in Michigan are dropping many acorns this fall as part of a mast year—an event that happens every two to five years when extra seeds let trees reproduce after a warm, dry spring boosts pollination.  FOX 2 Detroit

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At an Oakland County Board of Commissioners meeting yesterday, workers and officials questioned why road commissioner James Esshaki stayed on the job after he reportedly threatened an employee on a work site — an independent report said his behavior created fear. The board may soon hold a hearing to decide if he should be removed.  WXYZ
  • Gov. Whitmer signed Michigan’s bipartisan budget into law on Tuesday—after lawmakers approved a temporary extension on Sept. 30 to prevent a state shutdown. The new law funds road repairs, tax cuts for seniors and working families, free school meals, public safety, and capital projects including improvements at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.  CBS News Detroit

  • The Tigers hosted the Mariners in Tuesday's ALDS Game 3 at Comerica Park with Jack Flaherty and Logan Gilbert starting as showers brought temperatures down to around 60 degrees. They will face off again today in Game 4 at 3:08 p.m.—the series is now tied at 1—1.  CBS News Detroit
