Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 27th of October.
Good morning, Southfield.
📰 Economy
Michigan's average price for regular gas rose to $4.83 a gallon, up 32 cents since last week, making a 15-gallon tank about $72 (roughly $21 more than August 2025's peak), and AAA says higher demand, lower inventories, and crude oil above $100 are driving the increase.
Gas prices in Michigan have risen 33 cents over the past week to a statewide average of $4.82 and $4.87 in Metro Detroit, driven by an Illinois refinery issue and global tensions; some stations exceed $5 and diesel tops (more than $7 a gallon), pressuring families and small businesses.
🏥 Health
Local 4 sports anchor Jamie Edmonds and Lions fan Brooke Wessman were honored during a bell-ringing ceremony at the Detroit Lions game (Oct.
25) for their stage 3 cancer journeys, part of the NFL’s Crucial Catch initiative and the Lions’ October events with Henry Ford Health.
🏈 Sports
Brian Branch returned from an Achilles injury and, while on a pitch count, made four tackles and a third-quarter interception to help the Lions beat the Packers 20-17 at Ford Field in a divisional win.
The Pistons improved to 3-0 with a 106-93 win over the 76ers on Sunday in Philadelphia, now the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference.
They will face the defending champion Knicks today at Madison Square Garden with a chance to start 4-0.
