  • Food pantries in Southfield saw rising demand as the federal shutdown entered its second month and SNAP benefits were paused despite judges ordering continued funding. Local families remain worried about getting enough grocery aid amid ongoing uncertainty.  FOX 2 Detroit

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Michigan gas prices have dropped 11 cents to an average of $2.97 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline as drivers paid 20 cents less than last month and 21 cents less than last year, according to AAA-The Auto Club Group. Drivers filling a 15‑gallon tank can save about $44 — Metro Detroit prices held steady at $3.00 per gallon.  CBS News Detroit

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Emagine Entertainment and Folktellers Studios will launch a literacy initiative this fall that transforms young readers' stories into films. The program will partner with regional literacy organizations and feature an interview with Josef Bastian, creator of the award-winning Excerpts from an Unknown Guidebook series.  FOX 2 Detroit

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Michigan skies will be lit by the largest and closest full supermoon of 2025, known as the beaver moon, which appears full tonight and will peak at 8:19 a.m. on Nov. 5. The moon comes as near as 221,817 miles, and the moon illusion will make it seem larger when it rises—giving viewers a rare natural spectacle.  Hometown Life

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MDOT released new details on the I-696 rebuild in Oakland County that affect both eastbound and westbound lanes. Starting at 8:00 p.m. on November 14 until 10:00 a.m. on November 16, westbound traffic from I-75 to Lahser Road will be rerouted—select exits will stay open while several ramps remain closed until late 2026 and major work is set for 2027.  WXYZ

  • The Detroit Red Wings won 3—2 over the San Jose Sharks on November 3 when James van Riemsdyk scored a shootout goal, while Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond contributed key goals and Cam Talbot posted 16 saves.  CBS News Detroit
