Good morning, Southfield. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 3rd of December.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southfield’s Stevenson Elementary principal Tonya Hickman shared her breast cancer diagnosis with students and staff and continued to lead the school while undergoing chemotherapy. She will start radiation treatments later this month — a step that brings the school community together as they learn about strength and asking for help.  Click on Detroit

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Army Corps experts said that strong westerly winds moved water in Lake Erie and the Detroit River this fall (levels dropped 3.76 feet at Bar Point Shoal and rose about 4.6 feet in Buffalo) with gusts reaching 40 mph on Sunday. They noted that shifting currents made the water slosh back and forth and will keep engineers watching the river conditions.  The Detroit News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Metro Detroit native Dave Coulier, star of Full House, said on Tuesday he is now receiving radiation treatment for tongue cancer — a separate diagnosis from non-Hodgkin lymphoma he beat last year. He noted that early detection and a 90% curability rate make the outlook good as his treatment continues through the end of the year.  WXYZ
