  • Ed Bambas, an 88-year-old Army vet still working at a grocery store after losing his pension, received over $1.5 million raised online by a social media personality. The funds will cover his living and medical expenses going forward—an effort that has drawn strong local support.  The Detroit News

  • Big Boy restaurants in Michigan are reviving retro menu prices under $5 in a holiday promotion called A Taste of Home + it offers classic flavors and a nod to the brand’s heritage. The deal runs weekdays throughout December at select locations.  Fox 2 Detroit

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rosedale Community Players will present their radio play fundraiser, An Evening of Radio Plays, at Peace Lutheran Church in Southfield today at 8 p.m., tomorrow at 8 p.m., and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and proceeds will fund upcoming productions.  Southfield Sun

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Jan. 1, 2026, Michigan will raise its minimum wage from $12.48 to $13.73 as part of a plan to reach $15 by Jan. 1, 2027; rates for tipped workers will increase gradually with adjustments calculated based on inflation starting in October 2027.  FOX 2 Detroit

  • Doctors at Corewell Health in Novi say the holidays can intensify both clinical and non-clinical depression, especially for those who have recently lost a loved one. They advise maintaining a routine, avoiding alcohol, exercising, and volunteering to help ease isolation.  Southfield Sun
