  • On Dec. 11, Heroes and Helpers brought 10 Southfield Public Schools students to Target with police and firefighters—each receiving a $300 gift card—in an annual holiday shopping event, with a follow-up at Meijer on Dec. 16 and a Holiday Sleigh of Giving at the Public Library on Dec. 13.  Southfield Sun

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Consumers Energy filed a request for an 8% natural gas rate increase that would add about $6.44 to single-family bills to cover a nearly $240 million gap for the fiscal year ending Oct. 31. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel will intervene, and a public hearing is planned.  CBS News Detroit

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology will see metal detectors installed at main entrances starting on Monday, Jan. 5. The $100,000 state-funded upgrade targets both student and visitor safety (more schools in the district will follow as funding permits).  CBS News Detroit
