  • Oakland County officials announced a new dog license program in partnership with DocuPet that adds an ID tag and gives pet owners 24/7 lost-pet recovery service (announced Monday, Dec. 22). The updated system streamlines in-person, online, and mail registrations without changing the license cost, helping shelter staff focus on animal care.  The Detroit News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Zekelman Holocaust Center in Farmington Hills is offering free general admission until Jan. 2 to encourage reflection, learning and community engagement during the holiday season. Visitors will explore a redesigned exhibit that features personal survivor stories.  The Detroit News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA said Michigan gas prices dropped 12 cents in a week to an average of $2.73 per gallon, the lowest price so far in 2025. In Metro Detroit, gas fell to $2.80 per gallon (6 cents lower than last week) amid higher production and increased demand.  CBS News Detroit

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Southfield Public Schools will install metal detectors at Southfield High School for the Arts & Technology after the holiday break; four units will start there and three will go to University K-12 Academy. The devices were funded by a 31aa grant and join other security measures.  Southfield Sun

  • Experts warn that the H3N2 variant could lead to a tougher flu season as fewer get vaccinated, and they urge Southfield residents to secure their flu shots promptly + monitor symptoms closely for early treatment.  CBS News Detroit
