  • Southfield’s MLK Task Force seeks nominations for its annual Community Service Award, with submissions due Dec. 30 (nominees must be at least 18 and live or work locally).   • A new study by Phillips Law Firm finds Gratiot Avenue deadliest and State Road 96 and Telegraph among the most dangerous roads+ it used five years of fatal crash data from the NHTSA. Southfield resident Kevin Dickens rides Telegraph daily and disputes the study.  CBS News Detroit

  • Michigan waste companies and local collectors report that trash pickups falling on or after today will be delayed by one day, while Christmas Eve pickups remain on schedule (residential and commercial services vary).  Hometown Life

  • Road crews in Wayne County are pre-treating over 100 routes today in preparation for icy conditions expected Friday as holiday travel increases in the metro area. Officials urge residents to avoid driving when weather worsens.  CBS News Detroit

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Canelo, a dog found as a stray in Pontiac on Feb. 14, has spent over 300 days in the Oakland County Animal Shelter and is now ready for adoption. The shelter says he loves toys, knows basic manners, and does well with children and other dogs (with proper introductions).  FOX 2 Detroit

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Detroit Lions have named five players for the 2026 Pro Bowl, with Jahmyr Gibbs among the starters. The Pro Bowl will be on Feb. 3 in San Francisco, and the team faces the Minnesota Vikings today at 4:30 p.m.  CBS News Detroit
