Good morning, Southfield.

The Southfield-based Five Lakes Silver Band won the national championship at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne and will represent the US at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade in July, then perform a free concert at 6:30 p.m. on May 3 at Davison High School (1250 N Oak Road).

Oakland County will receive $1.2 million from FEMA to upgrade stormwater management by adding wetlands, restoring a stream bank and building water control structures to lower flooding on Telegraph Road and County Center Drive (the county covers 10% of costs) as part of the last $1.8 million grant installment.

The Lions filled top needs by drafting Clemson offensive tackle Blake Miller and Michigan edge defender Derrick Moore early in the draft.

GM Brad Holmes said his picks leave him confident as he prepares to add more talent with remaining selections tomorrow.

The Detroit Lions selected Arizona State cornerback Keith Abney II with pick 157 in the 2026 NFL draft, adding a 21-year-old who earned All-Big 12 honors last season.

He is set to boost the team's secondary as he joins a competitive rotation.

The Detroit Lions (trading picks with Buffalo Bills) selected Kentucky wide receiver Kendrick Law (21) at 168 overall in the fifth round of the NFL draft; the rookie joins on a friendly contract to boost special teams after Kalif Raymond’s free agency departure.

The Lions traded up to draft Michigan edge rusher Derrick Moore at No. 44, a move that received mixed reviews from NFL experts.

Analysts say Moore’s powerful pass rush should boost the team’s effort to complement Aidan Hutchinson on the defensive line.
